Jenni Schaefer genas van haar eetstoornissen en reist sindsdien de wereld rond om informatie en lezingen te geven. Na een strijd van meer dan twintig jaar met eten en lichaamsontevredenheid, is Jenni volledig hersteld van anorexia en bulimia. Nu wil ze mensen helpen die met gelijkaardige problemen kampen. Ze schreeft een boek: Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too (McGraw-Hill), waarin ze een bepaalde therapeutische techniek belicht.
In de voorwoord van ‘Life Without Ed’, schrijft Jenni:
“Ik ben nooit getrouwd geweest, maar ik ben wel gelukkig gescheiden. Ed (eating disorder) en ik leefden meer dan 20 jaar onder hetzelfde dak. Hij was gewelddadig, controleerde mijn leven en nam nooit een blad voor zijn mond. Hij zei me voortdurend wat ik verkeerd deed, en hoe ik het dan wel moest aanpakken. Ed was geen humanioraliefje of een weirdo die ik ongelukkigerwijs begon te daten. Ed was gewoon mijn eetstoornis.
